Hunt Midwest is looking for an experienced Manager of Security & Safety to join our Commercial Real Estate Team. The candidate will be responsible to the director of real estate operations for supervising and coordinating the activities of the security and safety staff. Manage and maintain all procedures and programs involving security, safety, and fire protection. Responsible for P&L and capital budgets for areas under direct management and supervision. Bachelor’s degree in security, safety or a related field required. Minimum of five years’ experience in an industrial security/safety setting dealing with fire safety and security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and direct safety and security programs to provide for the efficient operation of facilities.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and staff to maintain a safe environment.
  • Collaborate with external resources, including EMS, Law Enforcement, County, and State Emergency Operations.
  • Responsible for supervising the security/safety staff to include hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation firing and other personnel actions.
  • Maintain a good public image and working relationship with all employees of Hunt Midwest, its tenant organizations, and all visitors and guests.
  • Respond to varying calls to direct activities during fires, alarms, or other emergencies.
  • Manage fire safety efforts that include installation and inspection of HME fire extinguishers; SubTropolis sprinklers, emergency lights, evacuation plans and fire alarms.
  • Manage contractual obligations to monitor alarms and provide patrol services for outside accounts.
  • Inspect tenant facilities to ensure contractual compliance with regard to fire safety.
  • Manage and maintain various security and safety systems which includes the Honeywell fire system, SubTropolis radio system, REJIS system, and various air monitoring devices.
  • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets for the Security/Safety Department.
  • Act as cooperative liaison and collaborate with the Police Dept, Fire Dept, insurance inspectors, auditors and others.
  • Maintain membership/certification and actively participate in the American Society for Industrial Safety, Infragard and National Fire Protection Association organizations.
  • Provide key control for new tenants and new buildings.
  • Provide planning, logistics and feedback assistance to accommodate special events and projects.

Qualifications

  • Requires a broad knowledge of security or safety at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in security, safety or related field in order to perform the full range of security and safety duties.
  • Minimum of five years’ progressive experience in an industrial security/safety setting dealing with fire safety and security.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Class A armed license through the Private Officer’s Licensing Unit of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.
  • Ability to walk through SubTropolis buildings and physically perform tests on water/sprinkler valves and fire hydrants.
  • Ability to use hand tools, small power tools and accessories to test fire-fighting systems as necessary.
  • Requires strong oral and written communication skills to make presentations both inside and outside the company.
  • Ability to operate a pick-up truck with either manual or automatic transmission and a golf cart.
  • Ability to move a 30 lb. box.
  • Ability to operate standard office machines, computers, and security camera equipment.
  • Knowledge of the CO/O2/LEL, and CO TWA air quality-monitoring instruments.
  • Knowledge of Honeywell fire monitoring system.
  • Knowledge of Honeywell central alarm monitoring station. (Intrusion/burglar alarm)
  • Ability to use various air quality monitors and instruments.
  • Ability to observe situations analytically, impartially, and objectively and to record them clearly and completely.
  • Ability to use sound logic to react quickly and appropriately in dangerous and emergency situations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in security, safety or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ management experience with demonstrated success as a strong, collaborative leader.
  • Requires Class A armed license through Private Officers’ Licensing Unit of KCMO Police Department.
