Improving an existing one-mile stretch of Shoal Creek Parkway and expanding it 3.5 miles further east was essential in perpetuating the economic growth of the Shoal Creek Valley region in Kansas City’s Northland. The $10M project replaced a dangerous two-lane roadway and failing four-lane bridge with two new bridges, streetlights, trails and landscaping between I-435 and NE 96th Street.

The result of a public/private partnership between Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department, Hunt Midwest and the Kansas City TIF Commission, it represents one of the most capital-intensive infrastructure projects to date in the Shoal Creek area. Under the general contracting of Hunt Midwest, the Shoal Creek Parkway Expansion won an award from the TIF Commission for exceeding set goals for use of minority- and women-owned business and is also the recipient of the Kansas City Business Journal’s Capstone Award.
