Jon Birkel is responsible for developing and managing new residential products, including new home communities, multifamily developments, and senior living projects.
Jon joined Hunt Midwest in 2014, and he has more than 36 years of experience in architectural design, construction, planning, and urban redevelopment. He helps design and develop Hunt Midwest’s master-planned new home communities and amenities, from initial platting to working with homebuilders throughout construction to turning over finished communities to residents. He plays a critical role in project site selection and building programming design of Hunt Midwest’s award-winning multifamily and build-to-rent communities across Kansas City. Jon was featured in 2026 on America ByDesign on CBS, highlighting The Hudson multifamily property.
Jon is a dedicated public servant who shares his planning expertise with the Mid-America Regional Council, the Prairie Village Planning Commission, and the Johnson County Transit Council. He previously taught urban planning and professional practice as an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and served on the board of InterUrban ArtHouse, a nonprofit devoted to providing studio space and resources to Kansas City artists.
