Jonathan Birkel joined Hunt Midwest in 2014 as director of residential development. His focus is on project management and the development of new residential markets in Kansas City and multiple markets nationally. These markets include the expansion of senior living, assisted living and memory care properties and multifamily.
Jon has over 26 years of experience in architecture and design, planning, development, urban redevelopment, and project management of commercial, multifamily and single-family projects. Prior to joining Hunt Midwest, he served as vice president for real estate development at City Vision Inc., a not-for-profit development corporation, developing and investing in urban neighborhoods. Jon began his career in Kansas City at Gould Evans Architecture working with public and private clients, developing new building products and markets, including custom homes and multifamily projects.
Jon is involved with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and in 2015, was appointed to the Board for Sustainable Places Policy Committee to serve as regional leadership to the MARC board of directors. This includes presentations to regional municipalities and nonprofits on development of residential design densities, planning and zoning codes and investment strategies in redevelopment and creative place-making markets. Also in 2015, Jon was appointed to the Prairie Village, Kansas, Planning and Board of Zoning Commissions, as well as to the Board for Inter Urban ArtHouse, a nonprofit community arts organization in Overland Park, Kansas. In 2007, Jon started the Prairie Village Youth Lacrosse teams with the Kansas City Youth Lacrosse League where he held board membership and continues coaching with the Kansas City Metro Girls Lacrosse Association.
Jon is a graduate of Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design. He and his family have been residents of Prairie Village, Kansas since 1992.
